Make a precise access inventory
List every supplied physical key and any other supported access device, identifying which has actually been tested. Do not assume the number shown in a promotional photograph is the number included. Check independent lock, unlock and start operation using the manufacturer procedure. Test devices separately so one working key cannot mask another unrecognised device nearby. Photograph the items for the contract without publishing security codes, and ask how a missing key affects replacement cost and delivery time.
Establish the lawful transfer route
Ask the authorised service channel what ownership evidence and seller action are required to transfer or disconnect the vehicle account. The seller should complete their part before departure while support is still accessible. Do not buy a borrowed identity, shared phone number or bypass service. Keep a dated acknowledgement of the completed account action without collecting the previous owner's passwords. Where transfer is unsupported, record that limitation clearly and decide whether the vehicle remains suitable without connected services.
Demonstrate independence from the seller’s phone
With the seller’s phone out of the immediate access path, demonstrate the normal physical-key operation available on the car. Confirm the owner-manual procedure for emergency access with a qualified handover representative, without experimenting with forced entry or dismantling locks. A connected-service outage should not become an unexplained ownership dispute. If essential everyday operation depends on an account that cannot be transferred, the issue belongs in the purchase decision rather than a list of minor accessories to send later.
Remove personal data without disrupting security
Separate navigation history, paired phones and entertainment profiles from security and ownership records. Use supported reset procedures only after important diagnostic and handover evidence has been preserved. Confirm that previous personal contacts and destinations are no longer visible. A factory reset is not proof that all remote access has been revoked. Ask the proper support channel to verify account status and explain any services that remain linked to the original region or subscription.
Test the functions that matter at destination
Write a short list of required language, phone integration, navigation and remote functions. Distinguish features demonstrated locally from services confirmed for the destination. Unsupported software flashing can introduce security, update or warranty problems and should not be represented as routine translation. Check the overseas support and warranty scope separately. If the buyer only needs reliable offline operation, the proposal should still disclose unavailable connected features rather than implying that they will eventually appear.
Plan how keys travel with the car
Agree with the carrier which access item accompanies the vehicle and how any spare is securely transferred. Follow carrier rules and avoid leaving unsecured spare keys inside the cabin. Record the custody change at collection and arrival. Include keys in the shipping handover record alongside cables and documents. If a spare must be sent separately, agree tracking, recipient and replacement responsibility before the vehicle is loaded, not after the destination agent discovers a missing item.
Close the handover with a buyer-led check
At arrival, the buyer or appointed agent should repeat the agreed access test and confirm that the received items match the manifest. Record faults promptly and preserve the existing evidence. A working key does not prove legal ownership, so keep the contractual and registration documents in the same acceptance file. For fleet purchases, record keys by VIN in a controlled system and restrict access to security-sensitive records rather than circulating one general photo sheet to every driver.
Example: only one physical key is supplied
Before accepting a promise that the spare will follow, obtain its identity, replacement route, expected cost and an agreed delivery obligation. If the seller cannot supply it, price the car as a one-key vehicle with the associated replacement uncertainty. Do not let an app demonstration conceal the missing physical item, especially where destination account support has not been confirmed.
Buyer checklist
- List and separately test all supplied access devices.
- Complete lawful seller unlinking or transfer.
- Confirm offline access and regional service limitations.
- Document key custody during shipping and arrival.
Questions and answers
Is a factory reset the same as account transfer?
No. It may remove local data without changing remote ownership or service eligibility. Use the supported ownership process and preserve confirmation.
Can the exporter guarantee the app works everywhere?
No. Account eligibility, vehicle region, mobile services and support policies may differ. Obtain destination-specific confirmation and do not rely on borrowed credentials.
